About this game
Honestly, I don't think any game in recent memory has put fans through as much emotional turmoil as Grand Theft Auto VI. Announced via a jaw-dropping trailer back in December 2023, the hype was immediate and overwhelming - and the waiting has been agonizing ever since. I've personally been counting down for six years, and at this point, November 19, 2026 cannot come fast enough. GTA VI is currently set to release on November 19, 2026, after Rockstar pushed it back from an earlier window, citing the need for additional time to "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." That's actually the second delay - the game was originally expected to land in Fall 2025, then moved to May 26, 2026, before being pushed again to November. Frustrating? Absolutely. But if the trailers are anything to go by, Rockstar is building something genuinely special here. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida - based on Florida - returning to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City, which takes clear inspiration from Miami. Vice City hasn't been the main setting since the 2002 classic, so bringing it back in full next-gen glory feels like a serious homecoming. The map is estimated to include at least five counties and several cities, potentially nearly twice the size of GTA V's already massive world. What's arguably the biggest headline, though, is the story setup. GTA VI features dual protagonists - Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos - marking the first time a female lead has headlined a mainline GTA game. Lucia grew up in Liberty City and dreams of a better life in Leonida. Fresh out of prison, she sees a life with Jason as a way out - and Jason himself has grown up around grifters with a history of drug running. Their dynamic draws heavy inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde, and based on what we've seen in the trailers, the chemistry between the two characters looks genuinely compelling. On the gameplay side, Rockstar has confirmed reworked combat and stealth mechanics, including prone crawling, zip ties, human shields, and a smarter six-star wanted system, as well as over 200 vehicles with fully interactive interiors. Players will also be able to switch between solo Jason, solo Lucia, or dual protagonist control during open-world play. The first trailer alone amassed over 475 million views across all video platforms within 24 hours of release - which tells you everything about the level of anticipation surrounding this game. Fandom As someone who's been waiting six years for this, I genuinely cannot wait. GTA V came out in 2013 and has somehow kept going for over a decade - but it's time. Rockstar, please, just let us play it.
