About this game

I'll be honest - when I first heard FromSoftware was making a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, I genuinely thought someone was pulling my leg. The studio behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring - making a game for a Nintendo console? It sounded too strange to be real. But here we are, and the more I learn about The Duskbloods, the more I think this might be one of the most interesting things Miyazaki has ever attempted. The Duskbloods is an upcoming action role-playing game by FromSoftware for the Nintendo Switch 2, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, supporting up to eight players with both PvP and PvE gameplay. It's Miyazaki's first Nintendo home console exclusive since 2003 - a gap of over two decades. That alone makes it a genuinely historic release, regardless of how the game itself turns out. The concept is deeply FromSoftware in the best possible way. The protagonists are the Bloodsworn - warriors with superhuman abilities granted by their special blood, similar to vampires but without the traditionally grotesque appearance, with more than a dozen distinct and customisable characters to choose from. The Bloodsworn are competing for something called "First Blood" - as human society reaches its end, First Blood flows in an event known as the Twilight of Humanity, with the Bloodsworn summoned across different times and places to obtain it. Because of this, there is no fixed era or location in the game, with maps ranging from traditional Gothic and Victorian settings to the closing years of the early modern period. The visual contrast of characters from different eras clashing together - some carrying swords, others firearms - is exactly the kind of gloriously weird creative vision you'd expect from this team. Miyazaki has confirmed that lore fragments are woven into each character's "blood history and fate" customisation system, letting players uncover worldbuilding details as they shape their character's abilities, appearance, relationships, and role in the world. It's a clever way to deliver the signature cryptic storytelling FromSoftware fans love, adapted for a multiplayer format. Speaking of multiplayer - some fans worried this signalled a permanent shift away from solo experiences. Miyazaki has addressed that directly, confirming that The Duskbloods won't mark a shift toward multiplayer-driven games, and that FromSoftware will continue making single-player titles. Good news for anyone who'd rather suffer alone through a boss fight. As for release timing, a Closed Network Test was confirmed at the Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, set for Summer 2026 - the first major update in over 14 months since the game's initial reveal. The full game is still targeting a 2026 launch. I never thought I'd be buying a Nintendo console specifically for a FromSoftware game, but here we are. My wallet already hurts just thinking about it.
